Factors to consider when choosing shingles for your home:
3 TAB SHINGLES
Roofers refer to shingles as 3-Tab because they have three individual tabs that are a 12” wide. 3-Tab shingles have an average lifespan of 25 -30 years.
Like Architectural shingles, 3-Tab roofing shingles are asphalt-based products that work by shedding water to the shingle below.
Average Lifespan: 25 – 30 Years | Benefits: 3-tab design
Architectural Shingles (also known as dimensional or laminate shingles) differ from the traditional 3-tab asphalt shingle look as the actual shingle tabs have various sizes and shapes. These different sizes and shapes give them a more “dimensional” look to them and can make a shingle roof look more like a shake roof. Architectural shingles are thicker than 3-tab shingles, and with this, they have a longer lifespan than most 3-tab shingles. Architectural shingles almost across the board have a minimum 30-year lifespan and are rated to resist higher speeds of wind. Another benefit is that Architectural shingles help maintain or raise the value of the home if they are correctly installed.
Average Lifespan: 30-50 years
Benefits: Add elegance and character, and provides superior wind resistance
One of the most significant advantages of a cedar roof is the natural beauty of cedar and how it gracefully ages into a beautiful grayish silver tone. Cedarwood is long-lasting, making it an ideal roofing material. Cedar lasts at least ten years longer than conventional roofing materials, like asphalt. Cedarwood shingles and shakes are also resistant to strong winds and are durable in heavy rains, hailstorms, snowstorms, and other types of severe storms.
Cedarwood roofs are also energy-efficient, providing a natural insulation up to two times that of asphalt shingles. Cedarwood allows you to conserve home heating and cooling costs, and significantly save on energy bills.
Benefits: High quality, affordable roof protection
